Understanding how Expedia handles pricing models, business models, and package rates will help you configure your Expedia integration correctly and understand how information is sent between Avantio and Expedia.

Pricing Models

Expedia uses two main pricing models:

OBP (Occupancy-Based Pricing)

Rates can vary depending on the number of guests staying at the property.

For example:

  • 1 guest = £100

  • 2 guests = £130

  • 3 guests = £160

PDP (Per-Day Pricing)

Rates are calculated per night, regardless of the number of guests.

For example:

  • 1 night = £50

  • 2 nights = £100

  • 3 nights = £150

How pricing works with Avantio

The pricing model sent to Expedia depends on the connection:

Content API

PDP

With Content API, Avantio sends rates to Expedia as OBP, even if your rates are configured in Avantio as a fixed rate per accommodation or include guest supplements.

With the Single Rate connection, rates are sent to Expedia as PDP.

Important: If you are setting up or changing your Expedia integration, make sure your Expedia Account Manager is aware of the pricing model used by your connection.

Business Models

Expedia offers different business models that determine who collects the payment from the guest.

Expedia Collect

With Expedia Collect:

  • Expedia charges the guest when the reservation is made.

  • Expedia provides a Virtual Card for the accommodation provider to collect the booking amount.

  • The Virtual Card must be processed within 30 days after the guest's check-out date. Once it expires, it can no longer be charged.

Hotel/Property Collect

With Hotel/Property Collect:

  • The property collects the payment directly from the guest.

  • Expedia sends the guest's credit card details with the reservation.

  • The Property Manager is responsible for charging the guest's card directly.

Both

Expedia can also support a combination of Expedia Collect and Hotel/Property Collect.

When both models are enabled, Expedia can offer rate plans using either payment model. The payment method therefore depends on the rate and booking selected by the guest.

The business model configured for your Expedia integration determines how the reservation is paid and who is responsible for collecting the payment.

Vacation Package Rates

Expedia can offer accommodation together with other travel products, such as flights and/or car rentals, as part of a vacation package.

When package rates are enabled:

  • Expedia creates package versions of your existing rates.

  • Your Expedia Account Manager can apply an additional discount to these package rates.

  • When a reservation is made using a package rate, the discounted amount is sent to Avantio VRMS.

Availability of Package Rates

Package rates are available for:

  • Expedia Collect

  • Both / Combined

Package rates are not available for Hotel/Property Collect only.

Activate Package Rates

If your Expedia business model supports package rates, you can activate the option in:

Channel PRO → Portal Configuration → General Settings

Enable the Package Rates option to allow Expedia to use your Avantio rates for vacation packages.

Important: If you are unsure whether package rates are supported or should be enabled for your Expedia account, check with your Expedia Account Manager before changing the configuration.
