A useful module until 2021, but limited by European regulations

Until early 2021, the Receptio – PCI Wallet module was a practical tool for managing guest credit card data directly from the VRMS. However, regulatory changes in the European Economic Area (EEA) regarding payment processing marked a turning point in its use.

This article provides all the key information to understand how it worked, its benefits, and the reasons it is no longer available for agencies operating within the EEA.

Deprecated since January 2021

As of January 2021, due to European payment regulations, the PCI Wallet module was deprecated:

  • It can no longer be used by agencies registered in the EEA.

  • Users who still have it active must migrate to a platform integrated with Avantio Payments, ensuring regulatory compliance and reducing the risk of fraud.

What is Receptio – PCI Wallet?

The PCI Wallet module allowed agencies to receive and store guest credit and debit card information. With these details, payments had to be processed manually using a physical card terminal or a virtual POS system provided by the bank.

This service was offered in collaboration with Receptio powered by Syspay.

Advantages

  • Access to credit card details from portals such as VRBO, Booking.com, or Expedia.

  • Direct integration within your Avantio VRMS account, allowing you to view the card as many times as needed (up to 14 days after check-out).

When was PCI Wallet – Receptio powered by Syspay used?

This module was required if you wanted to receive credit card details from portals like VRBO, Booking.com, or Expedia and didn’t have another payment gateway integrated with Avantio Payments.

Payment on your website: payment gateway or Receptio – PCI Wallet?

  • Payment gateway (recommended): Enables automatic payments authenticated with 3DS, reducing the risk of fraud and chargebacks.

  • PCI Wallet: Did not require 3DS authentication. Payments had to be processed manually through a physical or virtual terminal, increasing the risk of chargebacks since the transaction wasn’t authenticated by the guest.

  • You must enable the payment mode Credit card charged manually in Bookings → Booking conditions.

Although Receptio – PCI Wallet provided a useful solution for years to access cards and process manual payments, European legislation made it obsolete.

Today, migrating to platforms integrated with Avantio Payments is the recommended alternative to ensure safer, automated, and fully compliant operations with current regulations.
