How to set up new taxes
To create a new tax, go to the Accounting - Taxes - Tax List tab and click on New.
Here, the system will ask you what type of tax you want to create:
General Tax
This usually applies to sales tax (it cannot be edited in a booking)
Other Taxes
This usually applies to tourist tax or any other additional tax (e.g. city/occupancy/etc.)
If you select General Tax, you just need to set the tax name, percentage, and link it to the properties it applies to.
Only one general tax is allowed per area
In this module, we only create the general tax for accommodations
General tax is mandatory - that's why there is a 0% extensive tax
General tax CANNOT be removed from bookings
General taxes for other areas such as: extras, invoicing rules, etc. are set up in their respective interfaces.
If you select Other Taxes, the setup is a bit more complex. You can contact our team for more details.
Extras
When you create a new extra/service, you can set it up so the tax is added individually to the price. Keep in mind that the only tax that applies and can be selected is the Sales Tax.
If the extra has a different tax, this can be set individually on each property's page.
If you need to add an additional tax to the sales tax for the extra, you can assign it directly from the new taxes section.
Tax setup in the CHANNEL MANAGER
In certain states, portals can collect and remit taxes on your behalf, so you should set this up in the Channel Manager to make sure this information is reflected correctly in your bookings.
In our Channel Manager, specifically for the Airbnb portal, depending on your location, you have the option to set Airbnb to collect and remit your taxes (this is the correct way to set up your connection with Airbnb).
When you have this setup, your bookings will enter the VRMS with $0.00 taxes.
This will show up in your reports so you can easily see everything:
