Manage Multiple Payment Gateways with Multi-gateway in Avantio Payments

Set up different payment suppliers for your accommodations and adapt payment management to your business operations.

Written by Lisa

Starting Point

Managing payments can become more complicated when a company works with multiple banks, different accounts, or various payment providers, especially if it operates in several countries or needs to apply different settings for each accommodation.

With Avantio Payments Multi-gateway, you can connect several payment gateways in one environment and define which provider should be used for each accommodation through your booking conditions.

This allows you to tailor your payment management to your business structure and work with different providers from a single, centralized place.

What will you learn in this article?

You’ll learn how to connect multiple payment gateways in Avantio Payments, set them up in your booking conditions, and assign the right provider to your accommodations.

Advantages

  • Manage multiple payment gateways or accounts from a single environment.

  • Adapt the payment provider for each accommodation or booking condition.

  • Simplify operations for companies working in different countries or with various banking structures.

When should you use this feature?

You should use Multi-gateway when you need to work with more than one payment gateway or account and want to assign them differently depending on your accommodations.

It’s also useful if you operate in several countries and need to use different providers due to their availability or the specifics of each market.

Before you start

It’s a good idea to review beforehand:

  • Which payment platforms you want to connect and whether they’re compatible with Multi-gateway.

  • Which accommodations should use each provider.

  • The booking conditions you currently have set up.

It’s also recommended to finalize contracts with each payment provider you want to integrate and check which credentials you’ll need to complete the connection.

Follow these steps

  1. Request the connection of payment platforms.
Contact each provider you want to work with and finalize the relevant contract. Then, let our customer support team know about the new platform you want to connect.

If the integration requires specific credentials, our team will let you know which ones to request from the provider.

  2. Check available platforms in Avantio Payments.
Once the connections are complete, go to:

VRMS → Configuration → Avantio Payments

Here you can see which payment platforms are active in your account.

  3. Set up the provider in your booking conditions.
    Go to:

VRMS → Bookings → Booking Conditions → List

Select the condition you want to edit and click the pencil icon.

  4. In How bookings are confirmed and paid, go to Step 1: To book and, if applicable, any additional payment steps you have set up.

    Within Payment method:

    • Select the available payment methods, for example, credit card.

    • Choose which connected payment platform will act as the provider for that payment method.

    Review and save your settings.

Expected result

Once Multi-gateway is set up, each booking condition will be linked to the corresponding payment provider.

New bookings will use the platform defined by the booking condition and associated accommodations, allowing you to manage different providers within a single VRMS account.

You’ll be able to check the provider and payments applied later from the payment breakdown of each booking.

Recommended next steps

After saving your settings:

  1. Review the booking conditions and associated accommodations to make sure each one uses the intended payment platform.

  2. Check the first bookings created with the new setup and review their payment breakdown to confirm the provider is being assigned correctly.

Main fields and options

  • Avantio Payments: shows the payment platforms connected to your account.

  • Booking conditions: let you define the payment rules that will apply to certain accommodations.

  • Payment method: determines the payment options available to the guest.

  • Payment provider: lets you select which connected platform will process payments for each condition.

Limitations and considerations

Keep in mind:

  • An accommodation can only be linked to one payment platform at a time.

  • You can’t freely switch providers between different payments for the same booking.

  • If a booking already has a card associated, you won’t be able to change the payment provider.

  • For manual bookings or those made on the web, the provider defined in the booking conditions will be used.

  • If the gateway used initially becomes unavailable, you’ll need to re-tokenize the card on the new active platform.

  • Multi-gateway is only available with certain integrated platforms.

Before changing the platform linked to an accommodation, always review existing bookings and any pending payments.

Best practices

  • Clearly define which accommodations should use each provider before setting up your conditions.

  • Keep your booking conditions structure simple to make maintenance easier.

  • Check which provider will be applied before editing a condition already used by existing bookings.

  • Review the payment breakdown of the first bookings after making changes.

  • Check each platform’s compatibility before requesting a new integration.

Practical example

A company manages accommodations in two different countries.

For accommodations in one country, it uses Stripe, while for those in the second market, it needs to work with Ascent.

With Multi-gateway, it can connect both platforms in Avantio Payments and create separate booking conditions for each group of accommodations.

When a new booking is created, Avantio uses the provider defined in the relevant condition.

If the first payment for a booking is processed with Stripe, all subsequent payments for that booking will continue to use that provider. It won’t automatically switch to Ascent for a later payment, even if the accommodation’s setup has changed.

Multi-gateway compatibility

Before requesting a new connection, check if the platform is compatible with this feature:

  • Planet: not compatible, except when used with different companies or legal entities.

  • Stripe: compatible.

  • Syspay: not compatible.

  • Ascent: compatible.

  • Tilopay: compatible.

  • Ingenico: compatible.

  • Gestpay: compatible.

  • First Atlantic Commerce: compatible.

  • PowerTranz: compatible.

  • Amazon Payment Services: compatible.

  • Mercado Pago: compatible.

Common errors

  • The expected payment platform isn’t applied to a booking: check the booking condition and the provider set in the payment method.

  • You can’t change the provider on an existing booking: check if the booking already has a card associated.

  • A second payment is processed with the same gateway as the first: this is expected behavior; subsequent payments use the provider initially selected.

  • You can’t connect multiple accounts for a platform: check that the provider is compatible with Multi-gateway and review any specific restrictions.

If something isn’t working

If Multi-gateway isn’t working as expected, check these points before contacting our customer support team:

  1. Make sure all necessary platforms are correctly activated in Avantio Payments.

  2. Verify that the platform you’re using is compatible with Multi-gateway.

  3. Review the booking condition, the associated accommodation, and the configured provider.

  4. Check if the booking already has a tokenized card and which provider was used for the first payment.

  5. Update the booking record and review the payment breakdown again.

If the issue persists, contact our customer support team and include screenshots, the booking reference, the affected accommodation, the booking condition used, and the payment platforms involved.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use multiple payment gateways or accounts with Avantio Payments?

Yes. With Multi-gateway you can connect several payment platforms to a single VRMS account, as long as they’re compatible with this feature.

How do I set which platform each accommodation should use?

You need to set this up through booking conditions. In each condition, you can define the payment method and select which connected provider should process it. That condition will then apply to the relevant accommodations.

Can I switch platforms between different payments for the same booking?

Not automatically. Once a booking starts processing payments with a certain provider, all subsequent payments will continue to use that same gateway.

If the original platform becomes unavailable, you’ll need to get a new card tokenization on the active platform.
