VRBO Promotions from Channel PRO

Promotions are a key tool to boost the visibility of your accommodations and increase your bookings, allowing you to strategically apply discounts based on the type of guest or the timing of the booking.

In this guide, you'll find:

  • What types of promotions VRBO offers and when to use them

  • How to set them up step by step from Channel PRO

  • What discount options you can apply

  • What conditions and limitations you need to keep in mind

Through Avantio, you can:

  • Create promotions

  • Edit the configuration of promotions (but not the promotion type)

  • Delete promotions (they will appear as inactive on VRBO)

Important

  • Existing promotions in your VRBO account will not sync to Avantio nor will they be overwritten by promotions created in Avantio.

  • To ensure they display correctly on VRBO, you must create them directly from Channel PRO.

Did you know you can have several promotions active at the same time? VRBO will automatically apply the most advantageous one for the guest (they are not cumulative).

Step-by-step guide to creating a new VRBO promotion

  1. Go to Channel Manager PRO

  2. Access Price Modifiers

  3. Click on Promotions

  4. Select VRBO from the dropdown options

  5. Create a new promotion or edit/deactivate an existing one

  6. Give the promotion a name, this is for internal use only

  7. Choose the type of promotion

Remember, depending on the type of promotion you choose, the configuration view will be different.

Examples of variations depending on the selected promotion type:

Early Booking / Simple

Last Minute / Days of the Week

Mobile Only / Nights / No Recurrence

Member Only / Nights / With Recurrence

How do I add properties to a previously created rule?

Once the promotion is created, you can select which properties you want to apply it to:

To help you avoid mistakes, for already created promotions, you will see alerts about:

  • promotions without associated properties

  • expired promotions

Keep in mind that VRBO does not allow you to delete promotions as such, only to mark them as “inactive”. This action in our interface will be equivalent to deleting the promotion.

How can promotions be applied?

You can apply promotion discounts in three different ways:

  • Single Discount: a fixed amount or percentage discount applied to the entire stay.

  • Discount by Day of the Week: different discounts depending on the day (for example, 10% on Mondays, 20% on Tuesdays).

  • Discount for Multiple Nights: a discount applied to a specific night of the stay (for example, 10% on the third night).

It's important to note that promotions are applied to the final price, which means both early bookings and last minute bookings can be set up as discounts or as promotions, and both will be sent.

It's important to note that each type of promotion has its own rules.

Early Booking:

  • Guests must book between 60 and 500 days before check-in.

  • Maximum discount: 75%.

Last Minute:

  • Guests must book between 1 and 30 days before check-in.

  • Maximum discount: 75%.

Member Promotion:

  • You cannot apply a day-of-the-week promotion format.

  • Only percentage discounts are accepted.

  • You must apply all three types of discounts for each membership, with a minimum percentage of 10%, 11% and 12%, respectively.

  • Only promotions offering at least a 5% discount will be published.

  • A single listing can have several types of promotions configured. (Keep in mind that promotions are not cumulative. The system will automatically apply the most advantageous promotion for the guest.)

  • The way the configuration is displayed in Avantio and VRBO may differ in how the promotion dates are shown.
Example: if on 01-01-2025 you set up an Early Booking promotion with 60 days in advance and indicate it should start applying from tomorrow and for the rest of the year, Avantio will show that this rule applies from 02-01-2025, while VRBO will show it as valid from 01-03-2025, since the minimum 60 days are required for the promotion to take effect.
